The name ‘shamrock’ comes from the Irish name “seamrog”, meaning little clover. The “dear little shamrock” has been a symbol of Ireland since the 18th century.

Across the world, the shamrock is the most recognized symbol of the Irish, especially on St. Patrick’s Day, when all over the world, everyone is Irish for a day!

According to the legend, Saint Patrick used the shamrock to illustrate the Holy Trinity of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost when he first began to convert the Irish to Christianity. This is why it is inextricably linked to the Saint.

Also, by law the shamrock symbol can only be used for goods and services of Irish origin and must be government approved.

Another little fact, every Saint Patrick’s Day the Taoiseach of Ireland presents a bowl of shamrocks to the President of the United States. This is to symbolise the relationship between the two countries.

We also have some beautiful earrings that would match well with this pendant.
